Baggin's Sets Them Up, Todd Breaks Their Hearts

1st Grade:- We are Undefeated on top of the 1st grade table. Again we broke the Wildcats hearts in the 9th inning. Again there was one run in it and again it was another great team performance. Although Coach Booth wasn’t all that impressed with the batting efforts, credit does go to the Wildcats pitcher, who kept our batters at bay.
Our fielding was faultless with Scott Sharman, Kurt Eden and Matty Smith making some of the more important outs. Dylan Lees was our star, pitching 8 2/3 and keeping the Wildcats batters guessing from the 1st to the last pitch. The most exciting part of the match was also the most nerve racking. In the bottom of the 9th when we were down 2-1 Super sub Matt Cashman lead off with a double, then Damo Kingman got a walk. Scotty Sharman then dropped down a sac bunt, which advanced the runners. Dylan Mc Master had a chance to tie the game, but was unlucky to be struck out swinging. With 2 out, Todd Bowden stepped up to the plate and although their catcher told their pitcher to intentionally walk him, the Wildcats pitcher had the confidence to finish the game. Todd just had the determination to hit in the winning runs, which he did, 1st pitch sent screaming down the third base line. Game over. Hearts broken, but not ours. Well done boys.

Started Fast and Held On

2nd Grade: A strong 5 run first innings with hits to Kurt Eden, Damien Kingman, Tim Heins, Michael Binks and Andrew Duncan set Rebels up a 6-4 win over Wildcats. Kurt Eden started on the mound in 2nd Grade, throwing 3 1/3 strong innings for 3 strike outs and 2 hits. He was relieved by Dylan McMaster who threw 2 innings for 3 strike outs and 2 hits while Matt Cashman closed the game with 2/3 innings for 1 strike out and no hits.
The pitchers got good support from the field with Michael Binks taking a great running catch in right field and Damien Kingman, Paul Woolven and Matt Cashman all playing strongly in the infield.Other hits were recorded by Josh Vodapianoff and Michael Binks getting a second hit late in the game.

Giving Runs Away

3rd Grade: Well, something had to go against us and unfortunately the 3rd Grade side was on the wrong end of an 11-2 scoreline against the Cats. Rebels struggled in the field, not helping their cause with a number of key errors allowing the Cats to score 6 unearned runs to add to their 5 earned runs.
The Cats pitcher contained the Rebels batting with Matt Cashman, Craig Booth and Glen Cavenagh the only ones to register hits. Jackson Smith had a good game catching, picking off a runner on first who got too big a lead and laying down a great sacrifice bunt to help set up a run in the first innings.

Great Team Performance

4th Grade: A great 11-2 win over the Cats thanks to strong performance on the mound by the evergreen Doug Smith who pitched 5 innings for 4 strike outs and allowed only 6 hits to keep the Cats to 2 runs. After the game he thanked his field and conceded he was not locating his pitches as well as he should.
The highlights in the field was a running catch by Craig Booth in right field. He got a slow jump on the ball because he was too busy playing with the grass- the general feeling from the crowd was that he has been watching the juniors too much! The bulk of the runs were scored by Ron Stone and Brad Maramara who both crossed the plate 3 times each. All the line up recorded hits with triples to Craig Booth and Doug Smith, doubles to Mick Cox, Peter Eden, Ron Stone, Brad Maramara, Danny Smith and Craig Booth and singles to John Dare (2), Brad Marmara (2), Ron Stone and Joe Marmara.

The Near Perfect Game

5th Grade Rebels: The game started well for Rebels with a great double play in the first innings thanks to Josh Peterson. This set the tone for the game with pitcher Colin Tippett receiving great support from his fielders with great outfield catches taken by Rod Travers and 3 by Lachlan Smith, including the play of the day with a running catch in the left field foul territory in the 4th innings.
Butch Byrnes and Kieran McCarthy led the batting display, both having a double and a single in the game. Josh Peterson, Lachlan Smith, Becc Bowden and Rod Travers all had singles as well. Special mention should be made for Darren Peterson's maiden catching performance. A solid 10 to 2 over the Wildcats sets the team up well for next week's showdown with the Royals.
