Baggin's Sets Them Up, Todd Breaks Their Hearts
1st Grade:- We are Undefeated on top of the 1st grade table. Again we broke the Wildcats hearts in the 9th inning. Again there was one run in it and again it was another great team performance. Although Coach Booth wasn’t all that impressed with the batting efforts, credit does go to the Wildcats pitcher, who kept our batters at bay.
Our fielding was faultless with Scott Sharman, Kurt Eden and Matty Smith making some of the more important outs. Dylan Lees was our star, pitching 8 2/3 and keeping the Wildcats batters guessing from the 1st to the last pitch. The most exciting part of the match was also the most nerve racking. In the bottom of the 9th when we were down 2-1 Super sub Matt Cashman lead off with a double, then Damo Kingman got a walk. Scotty Sharman then dropped down a sac bunt, which advanced the runners. Dylan Mc Master had a chance to tie the game, but was unlucky to be struck out swinging. With 2 out, Todd Bowden stepped up to the plate and although their catcher told their pitcher to intentionally walk him, the Wildcats pitcher had the confidence to finish the game. Todd just had the determination to hit in the winning runs, which he did, 1st pitch sent screaming down the third base line. Game over. Hearts broken, but not ours. Well done boys.

Started Fast and Held On
2nd Grade: A strong 5 run first innings with hits to Kurt Eden, Damien Kingman, Tim Heins, Michael Binks and Andrew Duncan set Rebels up a 6-4 win over Wildcats. Kurt Eden started on the mound in 2nd Grade, throwing 3 1/3 strong innings for 3 strike outs and 2 hits. He was relieved by Dylan McMaster who threw 2 innings for 3 strike outs and 2 hits while Matt Cashman closed the game with 2/3 innings for 1 strike out and no hits.
The pitchers got good support from the field with Michael Binks taking a great running catch in right field and Damien Kingman, Paul Woolven and Matt Cashman all playing strongly in the infield.Other hits were recorded by Josh Vodapianoff and Michael Binks getting a second hit late in the game.

Giving Runs Away
3rd Grade: Well, something had to go against us and unfortunately the 3rd Grade side was on the wrong end of an 11-2 scoreline against the Cats. Rebels struggled in the field, not helping their cause with a number of key errors allowing the Cats to score 6 unearned runs to add to their 5 earned runs.
The Cats pitcher contained the Rebels batting with Matt Cashman, Craig Booth and Glen Cavenagh the only ones to register hits. Jackson Smith had a good game catching, picking off a runner on first who got too big a lead and laying down a great sacrifice bunt to help set up a run in the first innings.

Great Team Performance
4th Grade: A great 11-2 win over the Cats thanks to strong performance on the mound by the evergreen Doug Smith who pitched 5 innings for 4 strike outs and allowed only 6 hits to keep the Cats to 2 runs. After the game he thanked his field and conceded he was not locating his pitches as well as he should.
The highlights in the field was a running catch by Craig Booth in right field. He got a slow jump on the ball because he was too busy playing with the grass- the general feeling from the crowd was that he has been watching the juniors too much! The bulk of the runs were scored by Ron Stone and Brad Maramara who both crossed the plate 3 times each. All the line up recorded hits with triples to Craig Booth and Doug Smith, doubles to Mick Cox, Peter Eden, Ron Stone, Brad Maramara, Danny Smith and Craig Booth and singles to John Dare (2), Brad Marmara (2), Ron Stone and Joe Marmara.

The Near Perfect Game
5th Grade Rebels: The game started well for Rebels with a great double play in the first innings thanks to Josh Peterson. This set the tone for the game with pitcher Colin Tippett receiving great support from his fielders with great outfield catches taken by Rod Travers and 3 by Lachlan Smith, including the play of the day with a running catch in the left field foul territory in the 4th innings.
Butch Byrnes and Kieran McCarthy led the batting display, both having a double and a single in the game. Josh Peterson, Lachlan Smith, Becc Bowden and Rod Travers all had singles as well. Special mention should be made for Darren Peterson's maiden catching performance. A solid 10 to 2 over the Wildcats sets the team up well for next week's showdown with the Royals.

The Import Returns

1st grade Rebels prevailed in a tight evenly contested game, Rebels got home against Indians with a 3-2 victory. The defence from both sides was high quality and this made it difficult for either team to cash in on their hits.
There was none better in the field than Rebels Scott Sharman who made 5 plays from 3rd base. Both teams got solid starts from their starting pitchers with Michael D'Abo pitching 7 strong innings for Indians, including 10 strike outs.
Rebels got 5 innings from Alex (Knight Rider) Hoff and he was followed by Damien Kingman for 3 innings with Pat (My Crutch) Maat getting 2 strike outs in the final innings to close the game with Rebels in front.
For Indians Josh Main and Craig Wilson both had two hits with a hit each to James McGiver, Sam Brown, Michael D'Abo and Mick Webber. For Rebels Alex Hoff and Pat Maat both had two hits with 1 each to Matt Smith, Scott Sharman, Todd Bowden and Damian Kingman.
A Game Best Forgotten
3rd grade Rebels lost to a strong Wildcats side 9-0. Not much to say except, we will turn it around next week.
One Of Those Days
4th grade lost to the Wildcats 3-2. Everything the Wildcats did turned to gold. Every hit found a gap, every time the Rebels batted it went straight to a fielder, if it wasn't for Doug Smith's great pitching the score could have been a lot worse.
Couldn't Pull Them Back
5th grade Royals played from behind after the Wooducks started strongly to lead 5 to 0 after two innings. After holding Wooducks scoreless in the 3rd, Royals responded with 3 of their own thanks to good hitting from Wayne Turner and Keith Wilson. Wooducks put on one more in the 4th and Deb Brown, Jack Denny and Wayne Turner loaded the bases to give Royals a chance to snatch a come from behind victory.
Unfortunately it was not to be with the final out of the game a close call at 1st. Wayne Turner had two hits with Jack Denny, Keith Wilson and Des Ho all had a hit each. Keith Wilson and Des Ho both pulled in great catches in the outfield and Jack Denny was solid in his first game at 1st base.
Coach Darrell Duncan was pleased that the team put themselves in with a chance after a shaky start and is looking forward to a better result next week against the Wildcats side.

Battle Of The 5th Grades
5th grade Rebels & Royals played each other in a battle to see who has bragging rights for the next 4 weeks. Rebels came away with their first win of the year winning 15-4.
The game had everything, sledging, classic catches, power hitting and more sledging.
The Royals first innings started off well with 4 runners scoring, but the Rebels batted even better and with some good pitching from Colin Tippett keeping the Royals scoreless for the rest of the game.
All other grades were washed out.

Fighting Spirit Shines Through

1st Grade played a great game to watch, and it was also great to see the first grade team fighting hard to the end.
The boys were down early and although it was going to be hard to overcome great Wildcat pitching we found our great team spirit and we started to string a few hits together. Yet another home run to Nathan Young saw us close the gap on the Wildcats lead. Todd Bowden led the way with the bat with 3 hits.
Everyone fielded exceptionally well, and with the scores locked at 5 all in the bottom of the 9th, Pat Maat capitalised on a Matt Smith double, to knock in the winning run with a single. Well done boys, great way to show everyone why we are the reigning premiers winning 6-5.
Youngy's Bomb, Not Enough

Even though 2nd Grade's rookie coach Matt Cashman spent most of this game pacing about and pulling his hair out, the game ended up coming down to the wire.
After being down 8-2 until the last innings, Cashman told his boys to get out there and hit, and hit they did. With singles to Kurt Eden (2), Scott Sharman, Zac Dawes, Andrew Mc Alpine and doubles to Dillon McMaster, Paul Woolven, Craig Booth, Zac Dawes and Andrew Mc Alpine, the boys pulled it together and after a 3 run bomb to Nathan ( all the girls love him) Young a miracle comeback looked inevitable. Unfortunately, the boys fell one run short going down 7-8 but definitely made a game of it and should be congratulated for digging deep when things looked grim.
Hard Work Didn't Pay Off
3rd Grade's game against Wildcats was very nearly called off due to the terrible weather, but the rain stopped and after tremendous ground maintenance by Craig Booth, the rest of the day was able to be played. 3rd Grade had a good start to the game leading 4 nil early on. The second dig wasn’t as great as the Wildcats batters capitalised on errors scoring 7, and even though Craig Booth worked hard on the mound the damage had been done.
There were too many runners left on base and the last 3 digs saw both sides only score 2 runs each. With singles to Zac Dawes and Brad Marmara, and doubles to Doug Smith, Peter Eden and Andrew Mc Alpine, we just couldn't get the runners over the plate and we went down 9-6.

Rebels Night At The Dogs
Thank you to all of the members new and old who turned up. Although it would have been nice to see a few more of you, the ones who did show up had a great night.
Sam Booth was knocked off her throne and we have 3 new Kings of the track with Pat Maat, Todd Bowden and Craig Booth taking home a few more dollars than they started with.
The kids had a great time and there may be a few potential greyhound trainers in the group. A big thank you to all of the businesses who sponsored a race, and for everyone who helped out before and on the night to raise much needed funds to buy all the gear the players use.
THANK YOU
Games for 3rd November
Home Run City
1st Grade Rebels scored a come from behind win over a strong Indians side.
Justin Norman was superb on the mound in the early innings to hold the powerful Rebels line up and have the Indians with a 4 to 2 lead. He had to leave the mound due to an injury and Rebels bats took over with good hitting through the line up, including home runs to Matt " Young Gun" Smith & Nathan " all the girls love him" Young.
Dylan " Baggins" Lees started for Rebels and pitched well without much luck for 3 innings. Ben "out all night" Ardrey relieved him and showed he has lost none of his pace in the off season, throwing a solid 5 innings of work to dominate the Indians batters. Rebels had caught and over taking Indians when bad light stopped play in the 8th inning with Rebels ahead 15 runs to 4.

Another Close Game
2nd Grade went down to the Indians 3-1 in another close game were the batters couldn't get the hits the team needed.
Come From Behind Win
3rd Grade recovered well to beat the Indians 6-4. Matt "Cashie" Cashman pitched well but was let down by quite a few outfield errors that gave the Indians easy runs.
To the batters credit they never let the score cloud their goal and were go enough to come away with the goods.

Hard Fought Win
4th Grade prove they can grind out solid win.
In recent weeks their batters have been going crazy, but this week the Indians pitched well in going down 6-2. 4th Grade played well in all aspects of the game and are proving the team to beat in their grade.

Silly Mistakes Cost Both 5th Grade Teams.
5th Grade Royals.
A bit of an improvement on last week. Good batting from some but we still need to improve it overall. Fielding is improving and the Mohawks only found a few gaps with a handful of hits winning 11-3, good catches to Keith Wilson & Des Ho.
Next week’s rest will see us back to form for the home game against Rebels.
Our base running is getting better with only a couple of errors & not from the new players.
5th Grade Rebels.
Rebels started the game poorly but finished strong to go down to the Wooducks 13-4.
In the first inning's the Rebels gave up 11 runs, you can't give up that sort of start and expect to be competitive. The talking point of the game was a brilliant double play from our 2nd base women Cassie "did I catch that" Moore.

Rebel's Dominate Bears
1st grade are on the top of the ladder with a 10-1 win over Bears on the weekend. Many thanks to Craig Booth and Tim Heins for backing up. Damien Kingman was solid on the mound, and relief pitcher Josh Alexander was equally as effective as the Bears struggled to pick up a safe hit. Again it was hard to have a stand out with every player pulling out a top rate performance. Well done boys.
Wooly Powers 2nd Grade Home
2nd grade played exceptionally well in this hard fought 8-6 win over Bears. Paul “44” Woolven was impressive in the middle, and was backed up by an impressive field display. With a few missing we again had to rely on 3rd grade to top up the team and they did not disappoint. Jackson Smith was again the standout, showing his awesome catching ability. It was great to watch his confidence grow and was a force with the bat as well. Thanks to Andrew Mc Alpine, and Sam Evatt who took a screamer of a catch in right field. Look out Indians next week.
Close But No Cigar
3rd grade played a exciting close game. Craig Booth was solid on the mound. Even though Bears managed only 1 run, we couldn't get the hits we needed and didn’t cross the plate. Bears 1-0.
Hitters Have A Field Day
4th grade looks like the best hitting side in the their comp, Our boys again, punished the oppositions pitchers with a great 16-5 win. Best on the park was Ron Stone with 3 from 3 and again Joe Marmara 3 from 3. Doug Smith had 2, Mick Cox, 2, and Jay Godfrey 2. Bob Montgomery and Pete Eden were strong on the mound. Great game by all.
Bad Day In The Field
5th grade played a game most would want to forget, Rebels showed signs of potential after piling on 12 runs in the 1st dig. Everyone batted well but our fielding let us down. Beau Denton was solid behind the plate and Lachlan made a solid debut with a massive hit over centre field.
Mohawks won 18-12.
5th grade Royals were out played by the Wildcats 20-5. Jack Denny and Keith Wilson played well but to many fielding errors kept the scoreboard ticking over.

Pat And Mat Shine On A Hot Day
1st grades first game of the season didn’t disappoint. A one sided 15-1 performance from our defending premiers. Although stand in Coach Pat Maat was cautious of the Indians side, it was realised early that maybe they didn’t turn up to play as silly little errors crept into their game.
A few plays stood out in a game that was plagued by many safe hits and many great outs. Congratulations to Matt Smith, who hit his first, 1st grade home run that landed about 30 ft past the fence. We knew it was coming after his previous at bat saw a similar length hit land just foul. The boys seemed relaxed, and enjoyed their first hit out of the season.
Matt Cashman took a catch in right field and although the player was given safe at home, the throw to catcher Nathan Young was spot on and many believe he should have been given out. Dylan Lees was faultless yet again on the mound, showing why he picked up player of the year in 2nd grade only a few weeks ago in the winter league. When you are backed by a great spirited team, it’s hard not to perform that well.
Things are looking good for back to back premierships for the mighty Mingara Team. Usually it might be hard to find your place in a team that has been together for a while, but Josh Alexander did not look out of place in this team and was one of the stand outs at 2nd and with the bat. We welcome him and all of the new players to the club and we look forward to their contributions. Well done all teams.
3rd Grade Home In a Close One
A close game that went right down to the last play with the Rebels winning 6-4.
Ray Verdon showed " age shall not weary them" pulling out a top rate performance in the field and with the bat. Jackson Smith was a stand out with the sticks, getting 3 for 3 with a double under his belt, closely followed by lead off batter Michael Binks who picked up a single, double, triple and a magical catch on the left field fence.
With the score at 6-4 and the winning run at the plate, the boys stayed strong. After a base hit to right field, the base runner rounded third heading home, and from a relay throw from right fielder Blake Cavanaugh, through 1st baseman, Andrew Clyburn to the glove of Catcher Brad Marmara, tagged the runner out before he got home and the game was sealed for the team.

Old Dog Bewilders Wildcats.
4th grade unleashed their batting power smashing the Wildcats 13-3. Doug Smith was tremendous on the mound sending down 60 pitches for 38 strikes and 5 K2's.
New recruit John Dare was strong at 3rd base while Smokin' Joe Marmara lead with the bat as did Danny Smith, Mick Cox and Peter Eden all having 2 hits each.

Royals Go Down In A Close One
5th grade Royals had their first loss of the season going down to the experienced Wooducks 8-7. Once again Russell Sheaves and Wayne Turner shared the duties on the mound, ably backed up by their field that even turned a double play.
Great first up performances for the club from Jack Denny, Cindel Harvey, Keith Wilson and Cathy Walker.
Hits were recorded by Des Ho, Jack Denny, Darren Kellard (2), Russell Sheaves (2) and Keith Wilson (2).
Please let us know at mingararebels@yahoo.com.au if you are unable to attend any games.

The Start Of An Intense Rivalry
This year we are lucky enough to field two teams in 5th grade, one know as the Royals and the other Rebels.
The Royals took first blood 13-7 in what is sure to be an intense rivalry between the two teams.
A pleasing aspect of the game was the debuts for the club of a number of players who had not played the game before. Another feature of the contest was the senior debut of a number of Rebel juniors Beau Denton, Kieran MaCarthy, Ben Hastings, Josh and Michael Peterson. Darren Peterson, John Dare, Rod Travis and Alan Faher all batted well for Rebels with Trent Lyon, Natalie Smith and Michael Peterson all batting well for Royals. Strong pitching from Russell Sheaves and Wayne Turner was well supported by Darren Kellard at catcher.

4th Grade Put Pirates To The Sword
4th grade welcomed a number of new players to the club, including Glen & Blake Cavenagh as well as Don Maitland.
Doug Smith and Bob Montgomery kept it tight on the mound with Mick (Coxy) Cox leading the way with 3 hits with Brad Godfrey, Matt Dodson and Andrew Clyburn having 2 hits each to see Rebels come away with a 16-6 victory.

3rd Grade Go Down To Pirates
3rd grade got off to a good start against Pirates, scoring 2 runs in the first innings only to see Pirates respond with 7 of their own.Rebels defence was able to hold them to only one more run in the game however Pirate's pitcher Scott Smallman kept the Rebels bats in check with Pirates running out 8-2 winners.
For Rebels Matthew Dodson and Andrew Clyburn played well while it was good to welcome back Brad Mamara after a year off, hopefully he won't be falling off any motor bikes this year.

Rookie Coach's Great Start in 2nd Grade
Under new coach Matt (Cashie) Cashman and his assistant Nathan (all the girls love him) Young the Rebels 2nd grade side played well to smash the Pirates 17-1.
After last summer off Dylan Lees made a solid return on the mound backed up by 3 hits. Every player batted well (except Cashie) with Dillon McMaster and Joseph Huish playing solid in there first game in Rebels colours.

Great Start for 1st Grade
Another season has started and it was pleasing to see a combination of new and returning players take the field.
There is no truth in the rumour that climate change caused the Bears 1st grade team to stay in hibernation an extra week but with a large number of players unavailable they forfeited the scheduled 1st grade fixture against the defending premiers.

U/14's Joint Premiers

After a very strong year our U/14's have been named joint premiers with the Lions Gold due to numerous unsuccessful attempts to play a Grand Final. The team finished the regular season joint competition leaders. Coach Craig Booth was very pleased with the improvement of the the new players and how well they bonded with the seasoned campaigners.
Special thanks to our scorer Becc Bowden for giving up her time to support the team.

Rebels U/12's Minor Premiers/Premiers

After many weeks of delay the under 12's finally got to play the Grand Final at Adelaide St on Saturday 22nd September against the Dodgers, after remaining undefeated all year they kept that streak alive to be 2007 Winter Premiers.
After a slow start the Rebels hung on to a 1 - 0 lead after 2 innings. The dodgers had a forced pitching change and that's when the kids started to string some big hits together. Matt had a big hit to centre field, Kyle hit a 2 bagger thru the cones and steady base hits from the rest of the team kept the scoreboard ticking over. Great pitching from Kyle and Brooke kept the Dodgers scoreless. In the last dig Jacko's smart thinking turned a 2 base hit into a home run from putting pressure on the fielders. The final score was 10 - 0 with Kyle winning MVP for the Grand Final.
A great effort all round to all the kids. Special mention to Coach Sam Evatt, Assistant Coach Sue Smart and Scorer Ros Evatt.

Rebels Through To The Grand Final
The Rebels U12's and u14's are both through to the Winter Baseball Grand Finals
U12's played Lions Black in the Final were they proved to be to strong with a excellent performance by all players. The batting depth of the Rebels proved to be to strong for the Lions with the Rebels scoring 6 runs in the 1st innings and 3 more in the 3rd to take the win 9 to 3.
U14's played Dodgers in a close game 6 to 3, starting pitcher for the Rebels Danny Smith had a top game digging deep when under pressure to throw the strikes needed to get the outs. Some excellent concentration and base running put the Dodgers under pressure right from the start of the game the guy's put it together when needed today hopefully we can do the same in the Grand Final against the Lions Gold side. There have been some close games between the Rebels and Lions Gold and i don't see the Grand Final being any different.

Steve Smashes Another One
Only 2 games for Rebels last weekend the U8's and U14's .The U8's had a great game against the Lions with all players showing major improvements to there skill levels with some excellent batting, base running and fielding. We have some real stars of the future coming through our juniors which is great to see. Rebels won 33 to 10
The U14's also played a excellent game against Lions Gold who were leading the comp by 2 points. The game was close throughout until the Rebels batters started to string together a couple of hits and Steve Hughes smashing one over to right field for a home run (it was huge) Rebels won the game 7 to 6. This means we finish on top of the comp with Lions Gold but Lions Gold finish Minor Premiers with a better for and against congratulation to Lions. The U14's take on Dodgers this weekend in the first final hoping to win to advance to the Grand Final a week later good luck to all teams in the finals

The Big Hitters Let Loose on the Dodgers

A wet weekend for the Rebels sore just 1 result the U12's up against the inform Dodgers. Starting pitcher for the Rebels did a great job holding the Dodgers batters to just 1 run after 2 innings. This allowed the Rebels batters to take control of the game with some sensational hitting, with a double to Brooke Hanna and a man of the match Home Run to Kyle Cross. Coach Evatt then made a pitching change bringing on Jackson McAlpine to shut the Dodgers down for the rest of the game. Rebels 10 Dodgers 1.

Rebels U14's
Well we let this one get away
Rebels played Lions Gold and every thing was on track for a win against the equal leaders of the comp until the bottom of the 3rd inning. We were up 10 to 4 when Lions hit in 5 runs to take the score to 10 to 9. Lions made a pitching change and Rebels were unable to trouble the scores with some good pitch by the Lions. The Lions then tied up the game and with a impressive bunt with loaded bases scored the winning run. With a few players out today the guys realy did play well with Nathan Marks having a go at catching for the first time and doing a great job. This might be just the shake up we need going into the finals in a couple of weeks.
Rebels U12'sThe under 12's had a hard matchup against Lions Black with the Rebels taking it out 11 to 9. There were some impressive performances by Man of the match Ben Marks and both Rebels pitchers Cody Hansen and Jackson McAlpine. Coach Evatt said he was impressed with how his players stayed focused and took the win, it was one of the toughest games this season.

Rebels Under 14's 1 July 2007

The U14's had their first loss for the season going down 7 to 3 to Lions Gold. Even though the boys tried hard with some fine pitching by Danny Smith, batting by Steve Hughes and fielding by Michael Peterson they were out played by the better side on the day. Big thanks to all the players and families who played and stayed to watch in pretty ordinary conditions ( 100 kmh winds and -20c temp). We showed some signs of the Team we are but just couldn't put it together in consecutive innings, its the first game back after a 3 week layoff due to wet weather and it showed.
Rebels under 12's 1 July 2007

The U12's remain undefeated with another outstanding win over the Lions 10 to 1. Coach Evatt was so please with the result he was lost for words Fantastic was all I could get from the coach. Some great pitching from Jackson McAlpine and batting from Matt Gardener with 2 hits and Cody Hansen with a Triple. But the play of the day goes to Courtney Tippett with a double play to finish the game and with a strong batting performance was also named man of the match.
Rebels Under 10's 1 July 2007

Rebels U10's are on top of the comp with another close win over Dodgers. Both teams played extremely well in a high scoring game 27 to 24 said coach Peterson of the Rebels. My team is really starting to play good baseball with none better than man of the match Jake Glover with some excellent batting and Fielding.

Pat Maat mention on Sportsforum
Two days ago a write up about the Rebels own Pat Maat on sportsforum.com.au and went as follows:
Young Pat Maat from Berkely Vale NSW Central Coast got a run the other day going 1 from 4. In his first start it appears the bases were empty in one of his four at bats and managed to get a double. Mitch Dening appears to made his presence known in his league already with a credible batting avg of .370avg 27AB with 10 hits and 1 HR. Jarad Eacott has also bolted out of the blocks with an ERA of 0.00 after six innings of work for the Twins rookie ball team.
Good Luck for the rest of the season. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates soon.
